So, let’s just say that everyone in the United States sets their computer to automatically switch to sleep mode when the computer is not in use.
What is will the impact be?
Well, according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, that have calculated that:
+ Computers will use 60%-70% less energy
+ We could save enough energy each year to power Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine
+ We can cut bills by $2 billion
+ We can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 5 million cars.

Yes, it’s true. Those are BIG numbers!  So remember, everything YOU do counts to because….

…you CAN make a difference!

time out..who’s bills do we cut by that much money? how is turning off my computer gonna affect me?? it uses less energy, so what? it doesnt benefit me in anyway, does it?

  2. computersneedsleeptoo Says:

Well, there is an electricity bill that you have to pay, so that is how it affects you!
The $2 billion is referring to the sums of the bill for the whole U.S.

Also don’t forget our whole point for promoting turning off the computer when not in use or at least putting it on sleep mode! By using less energy, the power plants are not wasting the energy they are producing to power your computer which technically isn’t even in use. The more power generated by the power plant, the more pollution it is emitting into the AIR. The AIR that YOU breath in.

ummm…why do we need to power vermont and maine don’t they have power??

  5. computersneedsleeptoo Says:

Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire do have power.
What they’re saying is that the amount saved is ENOUGH to power those 3 save.
That is A LOT of energy saved!
