Does turning on and off the computer too much shorten the computer’s life?
Even though this issue is debatable, most experts say no. Many people believe that this statement is true, so they just leave the computer on. Don’t do this! This is not beneficial for the life of the computer. In fact, turning off the computer will make the life of the computer longer since it reduces heat stress and other mechanic issues. If you happen to be turning on and off your computer 24/7 for some reason, then yes it will have an affect on your computer’s life. I believe that most of us here don’t, so it will not make a difference on the computer’s life, especially with the modern computers we have. Remember…

…you CAN make a difference!

thats interesting. i thought the computer wouldnt waste energy if it wasnt inactive..but i guess not. how much energy would that save if each of turned off our computers instead of leaving it on overnight?

It depends how long you leave the computer on. The equation to find how much money you waste is:

    (Watts x Hours Used)/ 1000 x Cost per kilowatt-hour = Total Cost

The cost per kilowatt- hour in New York is 11.4 cents.
The wattage can be calculated depending on the computer model.
You can input your own numbers to find the exact calculations!

This is a really interesting point! I agree that if you turn your computer off at night it can be very beneficial. We can save electricity and give our computers a good rest!

hi, can u explain what you mean by shorten computer life?

  5. computersneedsleeptoo Says:

By shortened computer life, it means that you probably wouldn’t be able to use the computer for its optimum amount of time and that it will be worn out faster. The usual PC would give you 3-5 years of good use before it is needed to be replaced or updated.
